Community outreach extends the impact of public
broadcasting through a variety of media services, educational materials
and collaborative activities. Efforts are always in partnership with
other community organizations and are designed to engage individuals
and foster community participation.

Jazz Roots: A Tribute to Machito & Tito Puente
About Tribute to Machito & Tito Puente: In the 1940s two styles of music – Afro–Cuban jazz and bebop – commingled to create
a cross–cultural feast of intoxicating rhythms and virtuoso performances. The fusio of Latin
rhythms with jazz improvisation broke new musical ground as such Afro–Cuban stars as Machito, Mario Bauza
and Chano Pazo collaborated with the jazz stars of the day, Dizzie Gillespie, Charlie Parker and Stan Kenton.
This show celebrates those exciting historic meetings as well as its aftermath highlighted by Afro–Cuban
pioneer Machito's Orchestra and salsa maestro Tito Puente's music.

About Tulia, Texas: A lone undercover cop moves into a small farming town. By the end of the blazing summer of 1999, 46 people are arrested for selling cocaine – nearly all of them African American. It was heralded as one of the biggest drug busts in Texas history, until a team of lawyers set out to uncover the truth.

ITVS Community Cinema is a free monthly screening series featuring
films from the Emmy Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens.
